About Kristie Baillie
Kristie is a sister, daughter, godmother, former track and field athlete-turned-rookie-skydiver, group fitness instructor and leadership facilitator. She specialises in 400m sprinting, and was a several-time New Zealand National Champion and New Zealand representative, including a New Zealand representative for the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
After being introduced to the philosophy of courage through sporting performance and wanting to learn how to perform better under pressure on the track, Krisite conducted her graduate research on courage in skydiving. This led her to become a licenced and industry-qualified skydiver, spending five months in the classroom of the sky.
It all started with “What if?”
“What if I could be someone who could get out of a plane calmly and not lose my mind in absolute panic and fear? What if I could not only handle the pressure, but find peace jumping out of an aeroplane?."
Now, a rookie skydiver with over 300 jumps, Kristie has held hands with her mother in freefall, cheesy-smiled at her goddaughter while falling to the earth at terminal velocity, competed in the New Zealand Skydive Championships, and was a member of the nine-women team to establish New Zealand Women’s Big-Way Sequential Skydiving Record.
Through this journey she experienced the transformative power of courage by facing fear head on, leaning into the abyss of uncertainty, and diving in the daunting unknown. This endeavour dramatically changed who she was, what she thought to be possible, and the way she viewed reality. It is this life-changing lesson that she helps others discover for themselves.
